steady as you grow

Sometimes we’re not logically aware that a change cycle is coming up, but we can feel it on the horizon as we begin to sort through and purge things to make room for what’s coming.

Several years ago, I started cleaning out the basement, removing paperwork, old clothes and tattered furniture and toys. I also set an intention after doing so; to grow.

Intentions are powerful so we have to be mindful of what we wish for. Growth came, but it wasn’t necessarily easy or smooth sailing. It did, however, bring new experiences into my life and worked my resilience muscles.

When we find ourselves in that in between space before a new beginning emerges, it can be unsettling and exciting at the same time. We’re learning and changing, and very often we can look back to see growth spurts as important junctures or chapters in our lives. It’s an ongoing evolution to become more of who we truly are.

So, I was I delighted when I opened my mailbox the other day. The seven-year-old little girl who lives down the street spends time writing sweet messages and drawing pictures for her neighbors. She leaves them in our mailboxes to add a little sunshine to our lives.

On the back of her inspirational little book of drawings was a message “Just Be You.” I thought, ah, the words of wisdom that come from little ones.

I’m passing her drawing and message on to you. It serves as a good reminder in our busy lives. As children, we were naturally ourselvescurious, open-hearted and free. As adults working to meet the expectations of others and fulfill our roles to the best of our ability, we can lose sight of what we need, who we are and what’s calling to usuntil we remember again and come back to ourselves. That’s the beauty of growth.
